Rize is one of the most-searched mushroom chocolate bars we carry, and most people arrive knowing only the name. They have seen the bar, they know they want one, and then they hit a page with three sizes and six flavors and have to guess.
This guide removes the guessing. It covers what the sizes mean, which flavors come in which sizes, why chocolate ships on its own schedule, and what the changes to the new Rize X bar are.
First, Rize, Ryze, or Rise?
It is Rize. One word, spelled R-I-Z-E.
We mention this because a meaningful share of the people who find us are typing "Ryze" or "Rise," and a fair number are searching for "Rize of Hope," which is the company that makes them. If you have been searching for any of those and landing in different places every time, you are not doing anything wrong.
You will also hear these called shroom bars, mushroom bars, or just Rize bars. Same product, different habits.
The Three Sizes
Size is the main decision. Flavor is the fun part, but size is what actually changes what you are buying.
5g
The smallest bar in the line, and currently available in one flavor: Matcha. If you want the smallest bar Rize makes, this is it, though you are taking the matcha flavor along with the size.
12g
The size the collection was built on and the one most people mean when they search for a Rize bar. Five flavors, and the widest choice of the three sizes.
24g Rize X
The newest and the largest, at 24,000mg in a single bar, scored into 24 tiles at 1,000mg each. Four flavors so far.
Rize X is worth treating as its own product rather than as a bigger version of what you already know. A tile off a Rize X bar carries a different amount than a tile off a 12g bar. If you are moving up from the 12g, the tiles look the same and are not the same. Start smaller than you think you need to.
What Scored Tiles Actually Do For You
Every Rize bar is cast into a scored mold rather than having score lines pressed in afterward. That sounds like a small manufacturing detail, and it is the difference between a bar you can portion and one you estimate with.
Cast score lines mean tiles separate along the lines instead of fracturing across them. You break off a tile, and you know what you have.
One practical note for any chocolate bar: break tiles at room temperature. A warm bar bends before it breaks, and a bar straight out of the refrigerator shatters unevenly and takes the inclusions with it. Let it sit out a few minutes first.
Picking a Flavor
The flavors sort themselves by how sweet they are. Here is the range from least to most.
Dark Crunch is the dark chocolate bar and the least sweet in the collection. Real cocoa bitterness, with no attempt to hide it behind sugar. If you reach for dark chocolate everywhere else in your life, start here. Available in 12g and 24g Rize X.
Matcha sits on its own. Green matcha in white chocolate, and the only flavor at 5g. Worth knowing that matcha has a specific taste, so this is a better pick if you already like it than as a first blind try.
Milk Crunch is the plainest bar Rize makes, and that is the whole argument for it. Milk chocolate with no flavor concept layered on top. If you want to know what a Rize bar tastes like without a dessert idea in the way, this is the baseline. Available in 12g and 24g Rize X.
Peanut Butter Crunch is for anyone who wants more going on than plain milk chocolate. 12g only.
Cookies and Cream is the sweetest and most familiar. This is the safe pick, and the one to buy for somebody who has never tried one. Available in 12g and 24g Rize X.
Shortcake Dream is the dessert bar. If mushroom edibles have put you off in the past because of how they taste, this is the flavor built to solve that. Available in 12g and 24g Rize X.
Rize also makes Party Tabs if you want tablets instead of chocolate.
Chocolate Ships On Its Own Rules
This is the part people are most often surprised by, so read it before you order.
Chocolate does not ship like the rest of the catalog. It goes FedEx 2-Day only, and USPS is not offered at checkout on chocolate orders. 2-Day Express shipping is available to all 50 states.
Chocolate ships Monday through Thursday and never on Fridays, so a bar does not sit in a facility over a weekend. Thursday orders need to be in by 2:00 pm PT. Every other day, the cutoff is 11:00 am PT.
Chocolate also cannot go to a P.O. Box, and it is worth knowing why before you place the order. A P.O. Box is a USPS box, and only USPS can deliver to it. FedEx has no access to it at all. Since chocolate ships FedEx only, a chocolate order addressed to a P.O. Box will be declined rather than delayed. Use a street address.
Every chocolate order goes out packed with ice packs, and handling instructions come in the package. Chocolate melts in hot weather, and we cannot guarantee a bar arrives unmelted, but a melted bar is not a ruined bar. Lay it flat in the refrigerator until it sets again.
If a white film shows up on the surface, that is chocolate bloom. It is cosmetic, caused by temperature swings, and the bar is fine.
Storing It Once It Arrives
Cool, dry, away from direct heat and sunlight. Keep it sealed between uses, which matters more than people expect for bars with a crunch to them, since an open bar goes soft.
Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Every time, without exception. It looks like a chocolate bar because it is one.
So Which One Should You Buy
If you want the smallest bar and you like matcha: the 5g.
If you want a real choice of flavors: 12g, and pick from the sweetness range above.
If you specifically want the largest bar available and you understand that the tiles are not equivalent to 12g tiles, then Rize X at 24g.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Rize X?
Rize X is the 24g line, at 24,000mg per bar across 24 scored tiles at 1,000mg each. It is the largest Rize bar available, currently in Dark Crunch, Milk Crunch, Cookies and Cream, and Shortcake Dream.
Is Rize the same as Rize of Hope?
Rize of Hope is the company. Rize is the bar it makes. If you have been searching for one and finding the other, that is why.
Do the bars taste like mushrooms?
The chocolate covers it. Dark Crunch integrates it into the cocoa's bitterness rather than hiding it behind sweetness, whereas sweeter bars simply overwhelm it.
Which flavor is best for a first bar?
Cookies and Cream or Shortcake Dream. Both are on the sweet end, and neither will surprise anybody.
Why can I not pick USPS for a chocolate order?
Chocolate ships via FedEx 2-Day only, so it spends as little time in transit as possible. USPS is not offered at checkout on those orders.
Do I need to be 21?
Yes. These are sold to adults 21 and over only.
